Abstract:
Discusses the duel, without any wounds resulting, between two Hungarian parliamentarians, the Jew Wahrmann and the erratic antisemite Istóczy. The former publicly defended Hungarian Jewry, while the latter established the Antisemite League. Istóczy was often ridiculed by his peers. He accused the Jew, apparently without cause, of insulting him during a debate and forced him to duel, thus ironically granting him the status of a gentleman. Most factions of the press supported Wahrmann, and even Prime Minister Tisza took the side of the Jews.
