Abstract:
Shortly after the rise of the Nazi regime, Jews were excluded from German sports clubs and were allowed membership only in Jewish clubs. In Fürth, there were teams associated with the Reichsbund jüdischer Frontsoldaten and with the Makkabi union, but in 1934 these teams ceased to exist. Since political organizations were forbidden, a neutral Jewish club was then founded, the Jüdischer Turn- und Sportverein Fürth, with ca. 120 members. In 1936 it was renamed the Jüdischer Sport-Club Fürth, but it ceased to exist after the "Kristallnacht" pogrom. At a time when Jews had to struggle for their exisence, sports became less important.
