Abstract:
In 1935, the Zionist Revisionist Party, led by Vladimir (Zeev) Jabotinsky, seceded from the Zionist Organization and formed the New Zionist Organization. Its central aim was to array those East-Central European governments who were eager to see their Jews emigrate, have them present the "Jewish question" as an international problem within a world forum (conference), and pressure Britain to open Palestine to massive Jewish emigration. Discusses the negotiations to this end which took place in 1938-39, particularly with Poland. Jabotinsky felt it was essential to evacuate Jews from Europe in the face of rising antisemitism. He believed that Jewish emigration was vital for the Polish government and that Poland was of primary importance for British decision-makers. The Polish government agreed to the idea, but the project encountered opposition on the part of the British, and all the efforts came to nought.
