Abstract:
Presents a body of laws concerning Jews excerpted from the Fuero Juzgo (a collection of laws in use during the Visigothic period), from the laws enacted by Alfonso X ("Especulo", "El Fuero Real", "Leyes Nuevas", and "Las Siete Partidas"), and from the Petitions of the Courts from 1258 to 1385. Comments on the legal and actual status of the Jews, and on the stances taken by the Castilian kings Ferdinand III, Alfonso X, and Alfonso XI. Describes particular laws in Castile regarding the purchasing of real estate by Jews, taxation, rights, privileges, and litigation with Christians.
