Abstract:
In the context of increased antisemitism, including by Muslim Arab youth (who may have been influenced by cultural rather than religious values), attested to by French government monitoring, discusses the issue of whether or not there is a new antisemitism in France. Notes the basic polemical nature of the debate. Faults the "new" label for combining two separate entities, allegedly "leftist" and "Muslim" antisemitism, when they are not necessarily linked, as well as for treating each one simplistically. Antisemitism is not new in either case. Furthermore, the debate often confuses anti-Zionism with antisemitism despite the fact that they are, at least sometimes, different.
