Abstract:
The first publications denying the Holocaust appeared shortly after the war in France. The works of Maurice Bardèche and Paul Rassinier set the groundwork for Holocaust denial, but they were largely ignored until the Six-Day War (1967). Thereafter, the Jews were perceived as being strong, and the world was free of guilt feelings towards them. During the 1970s the works of Bardèche and Rassinier became more popular and Holocaust denial was accepted throughout the world as a legitimate academic pursuit, taken up by scholars such as Robert Faurisson, who claims that the Jews are attempting to control France. States that both the Right and Left in France use Holocaust denial for political purposes. Both use it in the struggle against Zionism and the State of Israel, but the Right also uses it to support its belief in a Jewish world conspiracy and to condemn communism.
