Abstract:
Discusses the comic play "Abie's Irish Rose", which was a big hit and ran on Broadway for five years (1922-1927). It deals with the intermarriage of a Jewish man with an Irish Catholic woman, and the objections of both of their families to this union. Contends that the play created an ethnic Jewish public by drawing Jewish crowds to see the show.
