Abstract:
Vor dem 1945 von den Alliierten eingerichteten Internationalen Militärtribunal in Nürnberg musste sich erstmals in der Geschichte eine Staatsführung für einen von ihr begonnenen Krieg und von ihr begangene Verbrechen verantworten. Bis 1949 wurden rund 5.000 Kriegs- und NS-Verbrecher von westalliierten Gerichten verurteilt. Die Prozesse stießen in der deutschen Bevölkerung, insbesondere bei den Eliten, auf Ablehnung. Einer der einflussreichsten Kritiker der alliierten Justiz in der Bundesrepublik, der jedoch völlig im Verborgenen agierte, war der Heidelberger Juristenkreis. Dieser von 1949 bis 1955 aktiven Lobbygruppe unter der Leitung des Heidelberger Professors und CDU-Politikers Eduard Wahl gehörten bis zu 60 führende Juristen aus Wissenschaft, Anwaltschaft, Politik, Kirchen, Justiz und Ministerialbürokratie an. Politisch und biographisch waren die Gräben zwischen den Mitgliedern tief: Opfer und Gegner des Nationalsozialismus, "Mitläufer" und überzeugte Rechtsradikale fanden sich in die Vereinigung ein. Philipp Glahé zeichnet nach, wie und warum der Kreis trotz aller inneren Widersprüche bis 1958 maßgeblich an der Begnadigung fast aller in alliierter Haft befindlichen deutschen NS-Täter beteiligt war.
