Abstract:
The "entremés" was a minor theatrical genre, very popular in Spain during the 17th century. Although the Jew never appeared in it as a "dramatis personae", he was caricaturized through allusions, sayings, and jokes which reflected anti-Jewish stereotypes sanctioned by Spanish society at the time. Anti-Jewish motifs in the dramaturgy of the "entremés" included deicide, usury, fake conversion, and eating habits.
