Abstract:
Discusses relationships between male homosexuality, Jewish identity, and nationalism in Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past", focusing on his treatment of the Dreyfus Affair. Basically, both Jews and homosexuals were suspect as traitors, whose simulating what they were not tended to encourage heterosexual, Catholic, and "patriotic" France to view them as threats to the established order. Stresses how Dreyfus and Dreyfusards were cast as deviants by tarring them with the current sexual stereotype of effeminate Jewish males.
