Abstract:
Discusses the negative views of American Jews regarding the conservative columnist Pat Buchanan, mainly due to his attitudes toward the Holocaust, toward Israel, and toward his Jewish critics. They believe that his comments on these topics are the rantings of an antisemite. Presents a number of examples from Buchanan's writings that might lead one to suspect he is antisemitic, but contends that he personally cannot be charged with antisemitism. However, he has assumed the leadership of a conservative faction that is permeated with xenophobia, isolationism, and rancor directed at ethnic and cultural minorities, and Jews and other Americans are wise to oppose him.
