Abstract:
Traces the academic career of the Jewish jurist and legal historian (1886-1943). Pp. 409-420 deal with his fate during the Nazi regime. In 1943 he was deported to Auschwitz, where he perished. The Prussian Academy, which had exploited his talents for its prestigious dictionary of Roman legal language, could not oppose his dismissal under anti-Jewish legislation. Afterwards, the Academy showed far more concern for Abraham's research materials than for the person himself. Since he was a Jew, his name was removed from the legal project; he was then forgotten for half a century.
