Abstract:
This study is based on two studies by the Center for Monitoring the Impact of Peace (CMIP) based on 500 Israeli school textbooks for the years 1999-2000 and 2001-2002: language, literature, communication, history, geography, civic education, religious education and interdisciplinary subjects in all grades from kindergarten to 12th grade. The CMIP wishes to identify and present all the references, directly or indirectly, to the image of the “other”, more precisely that of Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians, in Israeli textbooks. The results of our survey corroborate the findings of our predecessors, and confirms their observation of a radical shift in the content of textbooks from the mid-1980s, which highlights a preparation for coexistence with Arabs and Palestinians.
