Based on testimonies, discusses the Holocaust period activities of blackmailers and informers, called "Schmaltzovniks", mainly in Poland. States that these people, most of them young men, acted out of greed rather than antisemitism. They usually operated in small groups and sometimes collaborated with the police. Relates various tactics used by these groups; they also threatened Poles who were suspected of hiding Jews. Presents excerpts from testimonies of Jews who were victims of blackmail, as well as condemnations of such practices by Polish and Jewish underground groups.
