Abstract:
Luce launched and supervised a large number of magazines (e.g. "Time", "Fortune", "Life", "Sports Illustrated") that transformed journalism and the reading habits of millions of Americans in the 1920s-30s. He also controlled radio projects and newsreels, becoming the first multimedia magnate in America, and he had tremendous political influence. However, although he was repelled by Nazi crimes, Luce remained aloof from the plight of Europe’s Jews.
