Abstract:
Analyzes the personality and identity crisis of Stefan Zweig, the German-language Jewish writer, born in Vienna, who committed suicide in Brazil in 1942. Deals with cosmopolitanism and the illusory solution of "internationalism", his sympathy for "cultural Zionism", and other elements of his apolitical personality, all against the background of fin-de-siècle Vienna with its antisemitism and the national problems in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Note:
On Stefan Zweig's views on antisemitism and Judaism.
