Abstract:
Describes activities of Sikorski's government-in-exile (in England) on behalf of the Jews: publication of pamphlets and use of other media to spread information on the sufferings of Polish Jewry, and provision of food and financial support for the Jews in Poland. However, the reports were often dismissed as war propaganda. The Sikorski government tried to persuade the Vatican to protest on behalf of Polish Jewry. It also cooperated with Jewish bodies in organizing protests. With the news of the Nazis' implementation of the Final Solution, the Sikorski government's delegate in occupied Poland helped organize and finance the Council for Aid to Jews (Żegota), and made contact with the Jewish resistance. However, the right-wing press continued to attack the Jews' presence in Poland. Relates to the mission of Jan Karski to inform the Allies about the plight of Polish Jews, and also to the Warsaw ghetto revolt, claiming that the Polish Home Army provided armed support.
