Abstract:
It is a topic on which French Jewish institutions maintain a deafening silence. The American Jewish community, the main Jewish diaspora in the world, is increasingly turning its back on Israel, its policy towards the Palestinians and its “identity” politics, which place the Jewish State alongside retrograde regimes. This distancing from Israel is recent. It remains in the minority. But the gap seems to be deepening at an increasing rate. In July 2021, a poll conducted for the Jewish Electorate Institute concluded that 25 % of American Jews agree that “Israel is an apartheid State”. The Trump-Netanyahu fusion relationship, and then the recent war in Gaza, have accelerated this process. And Joe Biden cannot ignore it now.
