Abstract:
Brazilian writer Roberto Drummond's novel "Hitler manda lebrancas" ("Hitler Sends Regards"), published in 1984, deals with a family of Jewish Holocaust survivors living in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in the 1980s. They are haunted by what happened to themselves and their families in Europe during the Holocaust, including internment in the Warsaw ghetto and later in Auschwitz and other camps. The husband is obsessed with the idea of hunting down Josef Mengele in Brazil, which brings his business to a state of bankruptcy.
