Abstract:
Criticizes as whitewash the report (in 2001) of a scholarly commission appointed to investigate the work of the state prosecution in North Rhine-Westphalia in trials of Nazi crimes. The report ignores or excuses the fact that a majority of the prosecutors after the war, including the attorney general Werner Pfromm, were former Nazis, and that they allowed only a small fraction of cases to come to trial at all. They then arranged the circumstances of the trial so as to tip the scales against the Holocaust survivors who appeared as witnesses, and in favor of the accused.
