Abstract:
Examines the aestheticization of the Holocaust. Explores the idea of the aesthetics of pain, taking as its point of departure Theodor Adorno's statement about the death of poetry after the Holocaust, and his later revision of this stance. Considers the relationship between beauty and pain. Discusses museums constructed to display the residue of the Holocaust, particularly James Ingo Freed's U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC and Daniel Libeskind's Jewish Museum in Berlin.
