Abstract:
Discusses the state of international research on the Holocaust in Eastern Europe. States that while the fate of the Jews in the Holocaust has been relatively well described, research on German decision-making and execution, especially on the intermediate levels, is deficient. Poland (within its present boundaries) is relatively well-covered, but little is known about the former USSR (including the territories annexed from Poland), and about Romania and Greece. Insufficient attention has been paid to the Final Solution in the context of Nazi East European demographic policy in general. Western archives still contain much untouched material, to which the archives in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union will now be added.
