Abstract:
Surveys Catholic and Protestant declarations issued in Germany since 1950, on the Churches' views regarding Judaism and the Jewish people. Shows that theologians of both Churches have progressively abandoned their views on triumphalism, the claim to the Church's election by God in place of Israel. They deplore the Christian persecution of Jews throughout the ages, and especially in the Holocaust. Analyzes the doctrines on which Jews and Christians agree and those on which they differ, as a basis for continuing Christian-Jewish dialogue.
