Abstract: Notes that the Middle East peace process (from 1967) has aroused a new Arab hostility toward Jews amongst those frustrated by its slowness and those fearing its speed. Highlights the Islamization of traditional European antisemitism, both theological and racist, including of the Nazis. Gives examples of conspiracy theories with a Qur'anist twist. Arab opposition to the peace process, which combines anti-Zionism, anti-U.S. feelings, and simple hatred of Jews, is of three types: political (which is not based on prejudice but affects and is affected by it), economic (involving the importation and updating of anti-Jewish stereotypes), and Islamic (with standard antisemitic themes from Europe being fitted into an Islamic religious framework). Types two and three are increasingly combined. Antisemitic propaganda includes rewriting history (e.g. eliminating the ancient Israelites), Holocaust denial (featuring acceptance of the views of Roger Garaudy in the Arab world), and equating Jews with Nazis. Refers, also, to recent signs of improvement in attitudes toward Jews.
