    Keywords: Apocrypha Criticism, interpretation, etc.
Abstract: Whereas the Apocrypha have often been defined by genre and sub-genres in relation to the canonical books, a connection between genre and historical settings is difficult to establish. In terms of historical context, the Apocrypha clearly belong to and originate from the Greco-Roman period of early Judaism, but within that timeframe they can almost be said to belong to different Judaisms than to one worldview or community. Which section of an Apocryphal book refers to which specific historical setting within that historical framework often depends on the form-, redaction-, and tradition-historical method applied. The historical setting of the text is often different from that which it portrays and is rather the life setting of the author. Examining various approaches to and trends within the study of Apocalypticism and genre can shed light on approaches to genre in the Apocrypha.

    Angaben zur Quelle: (2021) 498-515
Keywords: Apocrypha Criticism, interpretation, etc. ; Judaism History Post-exilic period, 586 B.C.-210 A.D. ; Jewish ethics ; Judaism Doctrines ; Ethics in post-biblical literature
Abstract: The question of theology and ethics cannot be separated from the methodological problems connected with studying it. Whereas the Apocrypha come to us from different life settings and represent many different, often unknown, groups and socio-religious traditions in Second Temple Judaism (538 bce–70/135 ce), the same is the case with the Pseudepigrapha and the Dead Sea Scrolls. However, unlike the Jewish or Christian Bible, none of these writings have a present-day faith community to represent them, so that there present-day ethical relevance is quite uncertain and any systematic theological approach is nearly impossible.

Keywords: Apocrypha Criticism, interpretation, etc. ; Judaism History Post-exilic period, 586 B.C.-210 A.D.
Abstract: The Apocrypha are an intrinsic part of Early Judaism, which as a field has undergone some dramatic changes. Starting as the Jewish background of the New Testament, it has developed from Ancient Judaism to Second Temple or Early Judaism, through and integrating the discoveries of the Qumran Scrolls and the re-emergence of the importance of the Pseudepigrapha. The Apocrypha have been part of this change and should therefore also be understood within the context of the many Judaisms during the Greco-Roman period.
