Abstract:
Examines the relationship of the German-Jewish choir conductor Hermann Levi (1839-1900) with Richard Wagner, as well as with Cosima Wagner and the Bayreuth Circle. Despite Levi's great admiration for Wagner's works, and his willingness to conduct the first performance of Wagner's opera "Parsifal", Wagner had hesitations about letting a Jew conduct this Christian work. Describes the nuances of antisemitism in "Parsifal" - the emphasis on "pure blood" and the non-Jewish image of Jesus - which had a strong influence on Adolf Hitler.
