Abstract:
Recounts the experiences of Jews who survived the Holocaust and found refuge in Chile, based on published memoirs. Among others, traces the fate of the Hepner family, German Jews who were victims of the "Kristallnacht" pogrom and emigrated immediately afterward; of Helena Precel, from Radom, a survivor of several concentration camps; of Alberto Neuwirth, who survived in the ghetto of Budapest between 1942-44; and of Israel Pollak, a Romanian Jew who survived as a forced laborer in Chernowitz. Pp. 291-302 deal with the case of Milan Platovsky Stein, who was born in Prague in 1922. He survived deportations to Theresienstadt and Auschwitz. Draws attention to the fact that in recent years many books and articles about Holocaust experiences have been published in Chile.
