Abstract:
Discusses opinions of various medieval canonists concerning the validity of forced conversion of Jews: a canon of the Fourth Council of Toledo in 633, a canon by Huguccio of Pisa, and decretals of the Popes Innocent III, Nicholas III, and Gregory IX, all in the 13th century. Dwells on two legal "consilia" - written by Gaspar Calderini and Peter of Ancarano in the 14th century - concerning the conversion of children against their parents’ will. Pp. 139-144 contain the Latin and English versions of both "consilia".
