Abstract:
Historians have long regarded the voices of victims who were witnesses to the Holocaust as hopelessly compromised by their subjective stance vis-a-vis the events. In "Nazi Germany and the Jews, " Saul Friedlaender demonstrates how the experiences of victims of the Holocaust and a Jewish historian who survived it can be incorporated into the writing of its history. Friedlaender shows how the perceptions and understanding of Jews who did not understand what was happening at the time (including he himself) can be incorporated in the historical account. Suggests that even an historian of the Holocaust who was born after the events can incorporate his experience of learning about it into the history he writes.
