Abstract:
Examines Parsons’ essay of 1942, which marks the beginning of a shift in the discourse on antisemitism prompted by World War II: from an emphasis on the object of hate (the Jews) as the cause of antisemitism toward an examination of the hating subject. Parsons found himself "caught in this shift", due to an ambivalent liberalism which could not affirm the particularities of Jewish culture, religion, and rites, but also criticized antisemitism and fascism.
