Abstract:
Compares and contrasts the accounts by Philo and by Josephus of Pilate having brought into Jerusalem symbolic Roman items of a military and religious nature to honor Tiberius Caesar, which aroused the wrath of the Jewish population. In the end, Pilate moved the items to Caesarea. Some historians contend that the accounts by Philo and Josephus describe two separate incidents, but Schwartz contends that they are describing the same event.
