Abstract:
In discussing the contrast between the views on the Holocaust of Daniel Goldhagen and Norman Finkelstein, concludes that neither is objective. Both are reductive, with their one-sided positions reflecting their own identities as affected by the ways they mourn (as Freud's psychoanalysis clarifies) those whom they view as the main victims (Jews or all of humanity). Criticizes both Goldhagen's thesis of the "unique German way" that led to the Holocaust and Finkelstein's thesis about the existence of a "Holocaust industry."
Note:
With special focus on the debate between Goldhagen and Norman Finkelstein.
