Abstract:
Discusses Richard Wagner's attitude to and relations with various Jewish composers and conductors - e.g. Giacomo Meyerbeer, Jacques Halévy, Hermann Levi. Traces Wagner's antisemitism to three sources - nationalism, anarchism and, only at the end of his life, racism. His wife, Cosima, shared his antisemitic views.
