Abstract:
Examines Christian hostility toward Jews in medieval Spain as expressed in works by Jewish authors writing in the 16th century, such as "Kitzur zekher tzadik" by Joseph ben Zaddik, "Sefer ha-Kabbalah" by Abraham ben Solomon of Torrutiel, and "Sefer Shevet Yehudah" by Solomon ibn Verga. These works contain information and reflections about the persecution of the Jews and the expulsion from Spain in 1492. Asserts that according to these works antisemitism was deeply rooted in Spanish society and culture, and that the violence exercised against the Jews was directed from the Crown, the nobility and the Church.
Note:
Especially Solomon Ibn Verga's "Shevet Yehudah".
