Abstract:
Contends that autobiographies based on lives that have been shattered by the Shoah necessarily differ from classical autobiographies. The lot of writers like Esther Orner, Georges Perec, and Aharon Appelfeld, orphaned by the Shoah, is that they received a truncated biography made up of absences and breaks. In order to recount their lives they have adopted an oblique approach; they speak in the name of their parents, resort to collective memories, and mix autobiography with fiction. In their work, the fictionalized autobiographical text imitates the fractures of life.
