Abstract: Examines the actions of Alois Brunner and his "Kommando Drancy" in and around Grenoble between February-March 1944. As a result, 370 Jews were deported and their property looted, Jewish organizations were dismantled, and leaders of the Jewish resistance were captured, among them Marc Haguenau. Contends that Brunner initiated this operation hoping to squelch Jewish resistance centered around Grenoble, despite his lack of success six months earlier in tracking down Jews in Nice. Assesses that "Action Brunner" was also a failure, since only a small number of the 8,000 Jews believed to have been hiding in the area were captured and illegal Jewish organizations continued their activities. Ascribes the poor outcome to a spirit of civil resistance prevailing in the city.
