Abstract:
Rejects the view that Theodor Herzl's Zionism was a result of the Dreyfus Affair, contending that it was a result of earlier experiences of antisemitism which he had as a child and an adolescent. He was also influenced by antisemitic reports in the Austrian press, antisemitism he experienced as a law student in Vienna, and the Tiszaeszlár blood libel in Hungary in 1882. While the Dreyfus Affair may have been one of the contributing factors, it was certainly not the only one.
