Abstract:
Discusses a file containing building plans and cost estimates prepared in late October 1942 by the Central Building Administration of the SS at Auschwitz, for the expansion of the camp to accommodate the "Sonderbehandlung" of Jews. The file, preserved in the Archive of Military History in Prague, refers to "morgues" (a cover name for gas chambers) and to crematoria. Connects this file with a consultation on 15 September 1942 between Albert Speer and Oswald Pohl, in which Speer authorized the planned expansion and the selection of prisoners for forced labor in war industry, commenting that this circumstance, as well as a letter by Pohl of 19 April 1943, indicate strongly that Speer could not have been ignorant of the purpose of the camp. Pp. 201-213 contain facsimiles of the documents.
