Abstract:
A study of the period between July 1934-September 1935 in Germany, based on secret public opinion reports; these show a decline in popular support for National Socialism, even to the point of apathy and resistance. There were two trends in Nazism - towards political establishment, represented by the government, and towards radical agitation, represented by the SA. Antisemitism was the factor that could unify these trends and rally the masses to support Nazi ideology. The Nuremberg Laws were enacted for this purpose in September 1935, making the radical views part of government policy.
