Abstract: The chairman of the FDP in Nordrhein-Westphalen and co-chairman of the national party, Jürgen W. Möllemann, gave his backing to a party representative who alleged that the "Zionist lobby" imposes a taboo on criticism of Israel. Discusses the danger of antisemitism arising from such an allegation. Möllemann argues that to oppose Israel's oppression of Palestinians is not antisemitism. But it is useful to remember that Treitschke, who was far from the racist antisemitism of his time, furnished the slogan later adopted by the "Stürmer". Möllemann and other "anti-Zionists" do use antisemitic stereotypes and thus legitimize antisemitism, perhaps inadvertently. Israelis are often compared to Nazis; this neutralizes Germans' feelings of guilt for the Holocaust, as does resentment of supposed Jewish pressure for more and more reparations. Concludes that it is important to reinforce the stand of the majority of Germans against antisemitism.
