Abstract:
Wyshogrod's "Letter to a friend" presents the issue of a Jew who converts to Christianity (in the case discussed here, to Catholicism), but maintains that he/she is still a good Jew as well as a good Christian. Wyschogrod states that a good Jew cannot be both. The responses relate to this statement.
Note:
Pp. 173-218 contain "Responses to Wyschogrod's letter". by Eugene B. Borowitz, David B. Burrell, Ellen T. Charry, Paula Fredriksen, George A. Lindbeck, and David Novak. Includes an epilogue by Peter W. Ochs (pp. 219-227), and a "Response to the respondents" by Michael Wyschogrod (pp. 229-241).
,
The letter and the responses were published here under the heading "Symposium on 'Jewish-Christians and the Torah'". The letter alone appeared also in Wyschogrod's "Abraham's Promise; Judaism and Jewish-Christian Relations" (2004).
