Abstract:
In 1906, the Society of Czech-Jewish Academicians, an organization which advocated the cultural assimilation of Bohemia's and Moravia's Jews, became anxious about an antisemitic tendency in the Young Czech party, and put the request in the title above to several prominent Czech politicians, men of letters, scientists and scholars. 26 responses were published in the press. Most of the respondents favored the assimilation of the Jews with Czechs, although some were skeptical about its success. Many condemned antisemitism; some respondents did not answer the question on antisemitism, and some expressed antisemitic views.
