Abstract:
The term "Holocaust literature" relates to literature written in three separate periods: works created during the war; writings published after the Holocaust, including edited versions of works created during the war; and works created between the two World Wars expressing premonitions regarding impending catastrophe for the Jewish people. A comparison between the original manuscripts by Yitzhak Katzenelson, Yeshayahu Spiegel, and Abraham Sutzkever, and their edited versions published after the war, expose significant differences in the perception of the Holocaust. Calls for an effort to preserve the original versions and to further their publication, not just as literary writing, but as documents testifying to perceptions during the actual events.
