Abstract:
The "Jewish question" is a central link in Hannah Arendt's reflections on modernity and on the evolution of the new European culture. In particular, she regarded the rise of political antisemitism in the modern period as a part of the degradation of the public sphere, the decline of the nation state, and the coming of imperialism. Totalitarianism only highlighted the fact that the "Jewish question" is a political one. Totalitarianism and fascism also made the banality of evil an accepted reality, which manifested itself in the Holocaust.
