Abstract:
Discusses various historical approaches to the Holocaust, among them the German "historians' debate", the intentionalist-functionalist theories, historical revisionism, and Holocaust denial. Focuses on the French revisionists, e.g. Robert Faurisson and Paul Rassinier, as well as on the extreme-left group and publishing house La Vieille Taupe. The latter, led by Pierre Guillaume, denies the Nazis' deliberate intention to exterminate the Jews and contends that the Nazis were short on manpower and therefore used the Jews. Relates to and opposes attempts to compare Nazi war crimes with Israel's policy towards the Palestinians.
