Abstract:
After World War II, a myth arose that, with Britain's entry into the war in 1939, Mosley called on members of his movement to fulfill their duty and take part in the warfare. The myth was based largely on his "Message to the Members of British Union", which appeared in BU's paper "Action" on 16 September 1939. However, examination of messages and instructions that BU issued, using its other publication outlets, shows that Mosley and his movement attempted to hinder the war effort by persuading men of conscription age to register as "political objectors". In his propaganda, Mosley resorted extensively to Nazi-like antisemitic clichés, contending that the war was a Jewish war and that it was being waged in the interests of Jewish financiers. Mosley's attitude did not change even after the German invasion of the Low Countries and France.
