Abstract:
Henry Ford, being a conservative, was disdainful of jazz and "modern dances" that became popular in the USA in the 20th century; throughout his life, he tried to promote old-time music and dances. In his campaign against the music that he regarded as alien to white America, Ford resorted to racist, especially Nordic and antisemitic, arguments; he believed jazz and "modern dances" to be not only an African but also a Jewish invention. Notes that the full-fledged media campaign for old-time dance and music sponsored by Ford in 1923-27 coincided with the publication of his rabidly antisemitic "Dearborn Independent"; the newspaper, as well as the "International Jew" series, published material blaming Jews for the rise of jazz. Surmises that the author of the racist introductory essay to Ford's old-time dance manual "Good Morning" (1925) was his ghost-writer and editor of "Dearborn Independent", William Cameron.
