Abstract: The Akko Theatre Centre consists of a group of Israelis whose parents survived the Holocaust. Their play "Arbeit macht frei mi-Toitland Europa" is a six-hour journey through the Holocaust past and Israeli present. Describes a performance in Berlin in 1992 in which actors and audience participated in exploring their countries' past. States that the audience's physical and emotional participation compels its members to consider difficult issues concerning bureaucratized genocide, the preservation of memory, and whether a people is culturally responsible to the present.
