Abstract:
One of the most effective ways to teach the history of the Holocaust is through its literature. Proposes Elie Wiesel's "Night" as an authentic narrative voice. Presents the novel as a history of four journeys: a geographical one, an historical one, Wiesel's relationship with his father, and his spiritual journey. Suggests topics to discuss with the students, and other classroom activities. Other works by Wiesel (e.g. "Dawn" and "The Accident") can also be used in the teaching process, as well as some poetic works (e.g. by Dan Pagis and Nelly Sachs).
