Abstract:
In an atmosphere dominated by the spirit of crusade meant to rid Spain of Jews and other non-Christians through forced conversion and the final expulsion of 1492, the Jewish intellectual elites mobilized themselves, albeit in exile, to give a theological response. Analyzes Isaac Abravanel's thesis, based on his interpretation of the Bible, according to which the Roman Empire, Christianity, and Roman Catholicism were descendants of Esau and therefore inherited his hatred of Jacob (i.e. of the Jewish people).
